Words are more than just sounds that come out of our mouth...

Words are containers that carry success or failure, health or sickness, joy or depression.

Words are, according to Eph. 4:29, containers that carry the power to corrupt, or the power to build up (to edify) and the power to impart grace.

Ephesians 4:29 says, “Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.”

Take stock of your words

Proverbs 18:20 says, “From the fruit of a man’s mouth (i.e. from his words) his stomach is satisfied; he is satisfied by the yield (harvest) of his lips.”

What a powerful truth from a profound proverb – that our words have the power to affect our life-satisfaction, and our “yield” or “harvest”, which represents our effectiveness, our productivity, our fruitfulness.

The reality is that the person most affected by YOUR words is YOU. And if you can’t speak words that build you up, that minister grace to your soul, you’ll never be able to truly speak grace to those around you.
