A NEW NAME, A NEW DAY

A NEW NAME, A NEW DAY

As a community of Christ-glorifying worshippers, we sense the Holy Spirit ushering us into an exciting new day in God’s purposes. Our church’s history is rich and colourful, filled with highs and lows that have advanced the kingdom of heaven by God’s grace. We believe greater things are still to come, because the Great Commision and the perfect work of the Cross inspires us to “dream big” with the Holy Spirit. With our eyes firmly fixed on Jesus, we expect lasting fruit in and through the life of our church.

But our greatest joy will not be in what God accomplishes through us. Instead, we will find our significance before Jesus in the authenticy of extravagant worship. Our highest thrills and deepest fulfilment will always be in satisfying the longing in the Father’s heart for worshippers who will worship Him in spirit and in truth.

Therefore, we sense in the Spirit a new name for a new day:

From “Maroondah City Church” to “Alabaster Church.”

In the Gospels, “alabaster” spoke of costly and extravagant worship which Jesus greatly honoured. By God’s grace, we seek to live out this glorious call and make it a reality in the life of our church.

TRUTHS OR PRINCIPLES LEARNED FROM A HEALING JOURNEY

TRUTHS OR PRINCIPLES LEARNED FROM A HEALING JOURNEY

BY LEANNE STOKES
Shared at our 10AM Service on 29 May 2022

Firstly, I believe God’s will is for everyone to be healed.

He’s a good father who gives us good gifts – there’s no evil in him, and if Jesus has already paid the price for our healing, then why would God want to dishonour that by making us pay again? Jesus was enough.

So the issue I believe is us learning how to pray for and receive our healing.

I have discovered there is no formula.

Things that have worked for me in one situation didn’t work in another. I prayed for myself as a teenager and was instantly healed and then prayed those exact same words for others and they weren’t.

Our example is always Jesus, and he healed people differently – for one man he spat in the dirt to make mud which he then put on the man’s eyes, sometimes he laid hands on people, other times he spoke the word from afar.

So it’s not about a formula, it’s about a relationship.

Jesus is our healer – the Bible says in Isaiah 53:5 ‘by His wounds we are healed’. We have to look to Jesus. We need to know who we are in Christ and the authority and mandate he has given to us to heal for the sick, such as, we are born of the spirit (John 3:6) and a new creation (2 Cor 5:17). We’re seated with Christ in the heavenly places. (Eph 2:6) Jesus said ‘I’ve given you all authority over the power of the enemy.’ (Luke 10:19) We’re also commanded to heal the sick. (Luke 9:2, Luke 10:9).

Jesus delegates authority to us so that’s why we always pray for healing and command sickness to go ‘in Jesus name’, because it’s his authority given to us. He’s the one that conquered death and sickness, not us.

Jesus also said that he only did what he saw his Father in heaven doing. Today the Holy Spirit reveals to us what God is up to so that we can partner with him to see His power released on earth.

So it’s about relationship with Jesus, the Father and the Holy Spirit because the Holy Spirit is the one who can reveal things that need to be prayed, decreed, released or broken over a person in order to receive their healing.

He can show the root cause and any blockages that need to be dealt with for healing to come.

If we’re open to the Holy Spirit he can guide us in using his gifts, such as the gift of faith.

When our kids were little they were lactose intolerant and had to have lactose free dairy products.

After listening to a message on healing, the Holy Spirit brought to my mind our kids lactose intolerance, and coupled with it was this incredible faith and just “knowing” they were going to be healed the moment I prayed for them.

I went into the bedrooms and laid hands on them and prayed while they slept and just knew they had been healed, even though there was no immediate evidence. I believe it was a gift of faith for that particular situation. The Bible says to eagerly desire spiritual gifts, so we can ask for them. You can ask the Holy Spirit for the gift of faith.

Back to the story...the next morning I gave both the kids a full glass of normal milk and shortly after my son comes to me and says his tummy is hurting.

My heart sank and I was really puzzled because I “knew” that they had been healed. Straight away I heard God say that the symptoms were from the enemy mimicking the sickness so we would give up on the healing.

So my next point is… Sometimes you have to fight to keep your healing.

The Bible says the enemy comes to steal, kill and destroy - and that means your healing too. Stand against him and believe what God says instead!

So with my kids I just pushed the doubt away and kept thanking God that he had healed them. My son’ tummy pain stopped and they’ve both been healed ever since. So in that case it was a very short lived battle, but be on your guard as you may need fight to keep your healing, especially early on.

No set time frame either

As nice as instant healings are, healings in my experience have sometimes been a journey because it’s about relationship and there’s often things God needs us to grow in or to address along the way.

My daughter started having seizures and losing her hearing when she was 5 years old, and we were told by the specialists that she probably had a degenerative disorder which is terminal.

After a few days of my head spinning, I was finally able to get quiet enough before God to hear him say he was going to heal her. I’d seen instant healings before and although I didn’t have the gift of faith operating at this point, I still believed God could heal her instantly. So when I asked God about her healing and the first thing God said was anoint her each day and pray over her for the next 3 months, I knew this was not going to be a quick fix this time.

Probably because my first prayers for her were along the lines of “God don’t let her die”! There was little faith or peace at that point, I was just praying from fear, which is basically agreeing with the enemy.

So the next principle is praise. Praise is so important in the healing journey because it puts God in His rightful place over our problem. We start to see God as bigger than the diagnosis or the physical evidence. It can be so easy to focus on our problem or sickness that we actually magnify it, instead of the creator of the universe. Praise helps us get our perspective right again, with God over everything.

Praise helps us move from a place of fear into peace, where it is so much easier to hear God’s voice and follow His leading. For you it might not be fear, it might be a place of discouragement or sense of helplessness; you still need to magnify God in your situation and change the atmosphere in which you pray. Praise can break strongholds and it changes us. God wants us to praise Him because he knows that’s what we need. We are continually changed through praise encounters with God.

So back to my daughter, it was months of praising God. One way I did this was to go for walks every morning and night whilst listening to worship music. I came to a place of complete peace about the situation because I kept my eyes on God and kept my expectation positive through praise and worship. When we received her test results nine months later, they were all clear. The seizures had also stopped.

At that point I would say my daughter was partially healed, but she still had 2 deaf ears. For another 2 years we kept trusting she would be healed of her deafness and kept doing and praying everything we felt led by the Holy Spirit to do, and I believe this obedience led us to God’s ‘divine set up’ for her.

On Sunday night, the 20th August 2017, our daughter went forward in a response for prayer. My husband and I were sobbing even before she was prayed for, because we “knew” this was it. We had been fighting for 2 ½ years, praising God and letting him speak into our situation, so our expectation was high and we “knew” this was the moment her ears would be healed. And one ear was miraculously fully healed that night! However, the other was still deaf.

Even though God wants us healed and whole, we have an enemy who doesn’t. We had to contend and fight for her other ear for 6 months, gradually seeing her hearing improve in that ear until finally, both ears were completely healed.

Sometimes we have to fight for the fullness of healing. Sometimes we only see a partial healing - but God doesn’t do half miracles! Keep fighting for full healing and keep praising and magnifying God in your situation.

If you’re on a journey of healing, be careful who you let speak into your life.

I had a well-meaning Christian friend who asked for an update on our daughter early on and, after telling her about the possible degenerative disorder, said to me: ‘I knew a guy who had a degenerative disorder who was believing God to heal him, but within a few years he was dead. Degenerative disorders are horrible things and sometimes life just sucks.’

At this point I could literally feel fear wanting to take hold of me. I quickly left, rebuked the fear and said ‘I am not coming into agreement with that word. My daughter is going live!’

After that I deliberately avoided that friend and surrounded myself with friends who would encourage me in what God was saying, would stand with me and fight and, above all, speak life into the situation, not death.

We need to carefully guard our hearts and minds against negative words and have people around us who are listening to the Holy Spirit and speaking truth into our lives. I’m not saying to surround yourself with people who will only say what you want to hear, but to make sure those around you are listening to what God is saying first, and that they are not filtering it through their own perspective or experiences.

When you pray, keep your language focused on what you believe God can do, rather than reeling off a list of what you see the enemy is doing. When you’re up against something, it can be very easy to pray from a negative stance.

For example, try not to pray things like ‘God, my daughter is so sick, the doctors have given her no hope, she’s so scared, we don’t know what to do’, and so on, because this is focusing on and advertising what the enemy is doing, and building him up in your situation.

Instead, pray from a positive stance such as, ‘God, we may not understand what’s going on but we know you are in control and our hope is in you.’ Instead of repeating the negative diagnosis, you can say ‘…regardless of what the doctors say we thank you that you have a hope and a future for our daughter. We bind the work of the enemy and speak life into her body in Jesus’ name.’

Instead of stating that someone is full of fear you would declare peace over them.

Don’t give the enemy airtime. Declare heaven’s perspective and what you want to see happen in Jesus’ name. Speak life!

How do we fight for healing?

You fight by taking every negative thought captive and instead choosing to think about what God has said, either in the Bible, or to you specifically for that situation.

You fight by declaring healing Scriptures over the person, or verses the Holy Spirit gives you. We made a poster with healing scriptures and promises and got our daughter to help decorate it with pretty butterflies & stickers, and we put it on her wall next to her bed. Every night we would pray those promises over her whist tucking her in.

Declare words of prophecy that person has been given. We had several people give us words or pictures about our daughter being healed. One was a stranger who didn’t know us or our daughter! Not only were these words incredibly encouraging for me, but they also became weapons in my hand that I could declare over her.

I would pray over her in tongues while she slept.

I would praise and sing worship songs over her, some of which were just magnifying God in the situation and letting my heart trust in him, and some were full on battle songs, coming against the sickness and declaring God’s victory and breakthrough over her. Praise is such a powerful weapon against the enemy.

Sometimes while singing the battle songs I would march around her room, just like the Israelites marched around Jericho! I did a lot of things that were symbolic and felt a little foolish at the time, but I was going to do whatever I felt the Holy Spirit put in my head to do, because symbolic or prophetic acts the Holy Spirit are incredibly powerful in the spirit realm. We need to trust and obey the Holy Spirit. Once again, it’s about relationship!

I also changed my language

When talking about my situation with people, rather than saying ‘she’s slowly dying’ I would say ‘the doctors think she’s going to die, but I believe God has said she’s going to live.’ And with our daughter I would always remind her that while she was deaf for now, she would one day be able to hear again.

Speak life into you situation, because Prov 18:21 tells us that ‘the tongue has the power of death and life’.

Fight for your healing whilst being Spirit led.

If someone has given a word of knowledge about your condition, that is God encouraging you that he wants to heal you.

If you don’t get healed when you’re prayed for, don’t give up. Ask God what the next step is you need to take.

Ask the Holy Spirit to show you if there any blockages. With our daughter, it was a deaf spirit that needed to be dealt with first, and that’s when her first ear was healed. We see examples of Jesus casting out spirits in order for people to be healed.

Unforgiveness towards others can be another blockage to healing, because you’re giving the enemy legal right to attack you through the unforgiveness. If you can’t forgive in your own strength then ask God to give you his strength to forgive, because it’s really about freeing yourself from that bondage.

Ask the Holy Spirit for the gift of faith.

Ask God for words of knowledge or pictures to guide you in your praying.

Ask God if there’s a root cause, such as a childhood trauma or a particular event that has triggered the sickness, and pray through that/those first.

Ask God if there is a lie you are believing about Him or yourself, and instead come into agreement with God’s truth.

Keep listening to Him and fighting for healing. But if you’re too battle weary or sick to fight, then get others to fight for you. I’m still fighting for other family members and friends for their healing.

Remember though, it’s about relationship! Keep talking to God and keep going, because God absolutely wants to heal you.

FASTING & PRAYER, 16-29 JANUARY 2022

FASTING & PRAYER, 16-29 JANUARY 2022

Dear MCChurch Family,

Let’s join together and intentionally engage with God through prayer and fasting this January (16-29).

“A fast is not a hunger strike. Fasting submits to God’s commands. A hunger strike makes God submit to our demands.” (Ed Cole)

“Prayer is reaching out after the unseen; fasting is letting go of all that is seen and temporal. Fasting helps express, deepen, confirm the resolution that we are ready to sacrifice anything, even ourselves, to attain what we seek for the Kingdom of God.” (Andrew Murray)

A pastor who once mentored me said, “The crisis of our times demand that we fast and pray, not feast and play.” This statement has never been more relevant than it is to us today, particularly in light of the resulting fear, distress, and instability caused by the covid pandemic.

But our Heavenly Father is giving us GREATER GRACE, and humility is our way forward. We are therefore joining for our first corporate fast for 2022, for the following purposes:

  1. To humble ourselves before Almighty God, that in due time He may lift us up (1 Pet. 5:6; Ps. 35:13; 2 Chron. 7:14).

  2. To seek the welfare and prosperity of Melbourne, of Victoria, and of Australia (Jer. 29:7; Isa. 62:1).

  3. To seek the Lord for an unprecedented Revival and outpouring of the Holy Spirit on our city and nation (Acts 2:17ff; Zech. 12:10; Isa. 44:3; Jo. 2:23).

  4. To pray for our government and for justice (1 Tim. 2:1-2; Isa. 32:15-16).

  5. To pray for the revival of the family in our local church and in our society (Mal. 5:5-6; Lk. 1:17).

  6. To pray for the harvest, for workers to be sent out, and for an evangelistic anointing to seize our church (Matt. 9:35-38).

  7. To pray for the operation of the gifts of the Spirit in our lives and our church (1 Cor. 14:1).

I sincerely ask all those who call MCChurch home to be part of this season by getting your heart and mind ready. I sincerely ask for your wholehearted commitment to say “Yes” to this 2-week period of prayer and fasting. I sincerely ask that you make room in your schedule and your day-to-day routine for much prayer and to fast.

There are many types of fasts that you can engage with. Below are some options:

COMPLETE FAST
This type of fast requires you to limit yourself to liquids only, usually water with juices as an option for energy. It is highly recommended that anyone who does this fast should do it with advise and supervision from your GP.

PARTIAL FAST
This type can be done in different ways and allows flexibility for the person fasting. For example, you can choose to skip a meal or fast from 6am-4pm. This is a great fast for those who have busy schedules and need energy to function.

SELECTIVE FAST or DANIEL FAST
This fast involves removing certain types of foods from your diet. For example, you can remove meats and sweets from you diet for 14 days — this is type of fast is normally called a “Daniel Fast”. Like the Partial Fast, this is a great fast to engage in for those who have busy schedules and need energy to function.

SOUL-CLEANSING FAST
This fast is a great option if you do not have much experience fasting food, have health issues that prevent you from fasting food, or if you wish to refocus certain areas of your life that are out of balance. For example, you might choose to stop using social media or watching television for the duration of the fast and then carefully bring that element back into your life in healthy doses at the conclusion of the fast.

The Armour of God: A Pattern of Prayer

The Armour of God: A Pattern of Prayer

1. BELT OF TRUTH

John 17:17, “Sanctify them in the truth; your Word is truth.”
Psalm 145:18, “The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.”
John 4:24, “God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”

Heavenly Father, I take up the belt of truth by rejecting the lies about who You are and the nature of Your heart. Today, I choose to believe the truth that You are a loving, affectionate, and intimately involved Father. You are full of grace and mercy, and I can trust You to perfect in my life Your good, perfect, and acceptable will for me. Saturate me with Your truth and set me apart with Your truth.

2. BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS

1 Corinthians 1:30, “But by the Father’s doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption.
Romans 1:17, “For in the Gospel the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, ‘But the righteous man shall live by faith.’”
2 Corinthians 5:21, “God made Jesus who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”

Lord Jesus, I confess and declare you to be my righteousness! My righteousness is not a set of rules that I obey nor is it a lifestyle that I maintain, but my righteousness is a Person—the Lord Jesus Christ! I worship You, my Righteousness!

3. SHOES OF GOSPEL-READINESS

Mark 10:45, “The Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.”
Romans 5:8, “God shows us His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Romans 6:23, “The wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
1 Timothy 1:15, “The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am foremost.”
1 John 4:10, “In this is love, not that we have loved God but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”
Revelation 5:9, “Worthy are You to take the scroll and to open its seals, for You were slain, and by Your blood You ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation.”

Holy Spirit, saturate my soul with the Gospel, the message of Jesus Christ. I am willing and ready to be used by You however way you deem best. Fill my heart to overflowing with the theme of the Gospel, and make my tongue (my words) like the pen of a ready and prolific writer (Psalm 45:1).

4. SHIELD OF FAITH

John 7:38, “Whoever believes in Me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.”
1 John 5:5, “Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.”
Luke 1:37, “For nothing will be impossible with God.”
Matthew 21:22, “And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.”

Father in heaven, I believe in Jesus and in the finished work of the Cross. I affirm with my words — my declarations and proclamations spoken out loud — that Jesus is the Lord of my life, and nothing can stop the will of God from being accomplished in my life. I believe that whatever obstacle or challenge comes my way, that my Jesus—my King and my God—is bigger and can and will overcome all impossibilities. And He will accomplish it for the glory of His name.

5. HELMET OF SALVATION

Ephesians 2:8-9, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.”
Acts 4:12, “Neither is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved.”
John 14:5, “Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.’”

Lord Jesus, I proclaim you to be my salvation! My salvation is not something that I will ever earn or deserve, but it is your greatest gift to me. Therefore, I cherish Your salvation and treat You as the greatest treasure of my life. Thank You for leading me to the Father and for pouring out the Holy Spirit continuously in my life.

6. SWORD OF THE SPIRIT

Hebrews 4:12, “For the Word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”
Romans 10:8-10, “But what does it say? The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart — that is, the word of faith which we are preaching, that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.”
Mark 11:23, “Truly I tell you that if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and has no doubt in his heart but believes that it will happen, it will be done for him.”

Note: make a commitment to declare verses in the Bible that are filled with the positive promises of God. Ideally, you should have a Word — a promise from the Bible — that you are declaring over every area of your life: your purpose, your ministry, your marriage, your children, your finances, your career, etc.

7. PRAYING AT ALL TIMES IN THE SPIRIT

Note: keep a prayer journal and write down who/what you are praying for. Pray in tongues as much as possible and make tongues the “undertone” of your day.

For many people, "grateful" might not be the word normally associated to 2020; but at MCChurch, we have so much to be thankful for! Here's a quick look at some of the wonderful things that the Lord has accomplished through us and is building at MCChurch.

Miracle Offering Received: $36,000

Last year, we drew a line in the sand on our commitment to the Primary School Project by receiving and completely dedicating our annual Miracle Offering to this initiative. MCChurch rose to new heights of generosity last year when we received a little over $36,000 towards the Primary School Project!

MCChurch is in discussions with Lighthouse Christian College on how to best spend the Miracle Offering of 2020. We are looking at these options:

  • The employment of a part-time project manager that will oversee the Town Planning Permit application, VRQA application, public communications and advertising campaigns towards the establishing of the Primary School.

  • Or, the employment of an agency that can oversee the business planning, feasibility studies, advertising, and surveys to help us plan better and establish the Primary School.

  • Or, dedicate the entire amount to the Town Planning Permit application as we engage with architects and town planners.

More updates to come as 2021 develops.

The righteous give without sparing. Proverbs 21:26

Covid-19 Relief Gift: $5000

In September 2020, we were able to help many fellow believers at Jesus Flock Churches in the Philippines who have been financially affected by the lockdowns due to the pandemic. Thanks to your generous giving to our Heart For The World Campaign, we were able to give $5000 to Jesus Flock Churches, who wisely and responsibly distributed your generous gift.

You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God. – 2 Corinthians 9:11

Typhoon Relief: $1100

In early December 2020, I received a request for help from one of the Jesus Flock Churches (Solano, Nueva Viscaya). Five typhoons or tropical cyclones ripped through widespread regions of the Philippines in November of the same year. Ps. Ariel Salteras asked for our financial partnership for an outreach to help 700 families living in a town on the outskirts of Cagayan Province who were affected by Typhoon Ulysses. We promised Ps. Ariel our Christmas Day offering, and we were able to give $1100! (We can't wait to hear  positive reports from Ps. Ariel)

Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. – 2 Corinthians 9:7

SUPPORT TO FIELD WORKERS

We have continued to support our "field workers" - the missionaries and church-planters that build the Kingdom in harvest fields overseas. Our support towards Sarah Ardu has remained consistent through 2020, as well as our support for the Filipino church-planters in Mindanao - Jerry Solmeron and Manuel Ral. In fact, our support for Jerry and Manuel has now come to its 3rd and final year.

Even in Thessalonica you sent me help for my needs once and again. Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the fruit that increases to your credit. I have received full payment, and more. I am well supplied, having received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent, a fragrant offering, a sacrifice acceptable and pleasing to God. – Philippians 4:16-18

MIRACLE OFFERING 2021

For the last few years, we have stretched our faith every year in the area of giving through the Miracle Offering - generously and sacrificially giving our best financial gift as an act of worship. Our heart has always been to see the work of God through our church move forward with great momentum, and for our generosity to overflow in many expressions of thanks to Him.

This year, the focus of the Miracle Offering is to build the house. Many improvements are being made around our building and people are volunteering their time and energy to make this possible. Areas of improvement that the Miracle Offering will go towards include:

  1. The installation of a cross on the facade of the building facing Wonga Rd that's visible during the day and lights up at night.

  2. The upgrade of signs around the building.

  3. The redesign and renovation of the auditorium platform.

  4. The upgrade of our auditorium chairs.

  5. The upgrade of office and cafe furniture.

  6. Other AV upgrade including camera gear.

These works are still in the process of being costed. However, based on previous Miracle Offerings, it's possible that we will be able to cover all these improvements to our building through this year's Miracle Offering.

BEYOND BUILDING THE HOUSE

As many of you know, we tithe the Miracle Offering to Missions. This year will be no different, except that we will add at least another tithe to help support churches that have struggled due to the COVID lockdowns. There are churches that have struggled financially and have been displaced by the lockdowns and COVID restrictions, and we are in a great position to help and be of assistance to our fellow churches.

This means at least 20% of the Miracle Offering will be used to bless and resource others.

MIRACLE OFFERING 2021: SUNDAY, 18 APRIL

The date for this year's Miracle Offering is on 18 April. After that, our church has a 3-month window to give towards the Miracle Offering. Please prayerfully determine for yourself, in your heart and with trust in the Lord, the amount you will be contributing to the Miracle Offering. All tithes and offerings at MCChurch are "freewill" and "sacrificial" - no one is under compulsion to give, because God loves a cheerful giver!

Thank you in advance for your faithful, generous, and even sacrificial giving! Let's build the house as we anticipate MORE, HOLY SPIRIT!

HOW TO PRAY FOR THE SALVATION OF PEOPLE YOU LOVE

HOW TO PRAY FOR THE SALVATION OF PEOPLE YOU LOVE

Have you ever tried to share the love of Jesus to someone you love, in the hope that they too would come to believe in Him, only to find yourself faced with strong opposition and resulting failure? The key to the the Good News (The Gospel) breaking into people’s hearts successfully is not necessarily a better presentation of the Good News, or your ability to persuade and “sell” the Gospel. The key to the salvation of people you love is PRAYER — crafted, specific, and, most importantly, Scripture-based prayer.

There are countless verses of promise in the Bible for you to base your prayers on, as you pray for people you love by name. Here are a few to help guide you in your prayers:

  1. Father God, I know that “no one can come to Jesus unless the Father draws them” (John 6:44). I ask that You draw _____________ to Your Jesus, that he/she may know You personally and spend eternity with You.

  2. Lord God, I ask that You move upon _____________’s heart to accept the Truth and Power of Christ. “For I will give them a heart to know Me, for I am the Lord; and they will be My people, and I will be their God, for the will return to Me with their whole heart” (Jeremiah 24:7)

  3. Overwhelm _____________ with the reality of Your love for him/her, that he/she may “grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge” (Ephesians 3:18-19).

  4. Lord, use me to “open _____________’s eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in [You]” (Acts 26:18).

  5. Holy Spirit, show me specifically how to minister to each member of my family—whether I should “be merciful to those who doubt; save others by snatching them from the fire; [or] show mercy, mixed with fear” (Jude 1:23). Reveal opportunities to share about You, and give me the strength to obey when You open the door.

  6. Father God, Your Word says that “godly sorrow brings repentance which leads to salvation and leaves no regret” (2 Corinthians 7:10). Only You can open our eyes to the reality that all have sinned and fallen short of Your glory. Come upon _____________ with a sense of godly sorrow for his/her sin, that he/she may repent, surrender to You, and be saved.

Prayer is all about rest and faith— it’s trusting God that, as we pray, He is the one who is moving to change and open people’s hearts to the beauty and power of salvation in Christ. You may see answers to your prayers immediately, or it may take years for you to see the impact of your prayers.. Either way, keep on praying!. The spiritual battle (see Ephesians 6:12-20) we are in is ultimately a battle we win, if we never give up in prayer. God is in the business of doing the impossible, and He can change even the hardest of hearts.

HARVEST TIME

HARVEST TIME

Harvest Time: Our Local and Strategic Response to the Global Crisis

A special letter to MCChurch, by Ps. Paul Magno.

In spite of the circumstances surrounding the global crisis we are living in, I still firmly believe that we are about to enter into a time of great growth and momentum as a local church. I’m very hopeful that the lockdown will soon end, perhaps with some social distancing guidelines to be followed, and that soon all physical isolation measures will be lifted and we will begin to resume gatherings as a church once again.

In addition to that strong personal conviction, the Holy Spirit dropped a phrase in my heart, “HARVEST TIME.” It released a faith in my heart that we are going to grow as a church, in spite of our challenges as a congregation, a society, and a generation.

With this expectation in mind, I want to share with you our local church’s strategic response to this global crisis. In short, our strategy is to commit to the harvest. Our response is to strengthen our resolve in God’s call to the harvest fields and to reach the lost — no unfavourable circumstance or seemingly impossible challenges will cause us to waterdown or diminish God’s call to the harvest. Instead, our attitude should be like vehicle drivers in Manila when they get to a traffic intersection: green means go, yellow means go faster, and red means go anyway!

Here is a simple 3-step strategy to the engaging with the harvest:

PRAY

  • Pray for 5 people during this lockdown. (5 is symbolically the number of “grace” in Scripture.)

  • Pray for them by name. Don’t just pray for the lost in a generic sense, but pray for them specifically by name.

  • Pray for the Holy Spirit to open their hearts to Jesus (Acts 16:14), as Jesus is actively seeking them out like He did the lost sheep (Luke 15:3-7; 19:10).

  • Pray for the urgently and faithfully, and ask God to reach them in unique and unexpected ways to open hearts to Himself.

CARE

  • Show real care for the practical needs of the people you pray for. Ask them how you can help during this crisis, and do whatever you can to show them that you care. Remember the old saying: people don’t care how much you know, they care how much you care.

  • Depending on the government’s distancing measures, help out with meals, groceries, shopping, babysitting, etc.

  • Check in on your prayer list of 5 on a regular basis through SMS, phone call, email, or social media messaging. Make the point of contact personal and exuding with care.

  • Confidently ask them, “How can I pray for you?” Confidence — especially Godly confidence — can be immensely comforting and encouraging during a crisis.

SHARE

  • Boldly share your hope and faith in Christ. Do not think of this as a sales pitch or a business presentation that people buy-in to or not; our responsibility is to share the Gospel, and let God do a work in people’s hearts.

  • Share your testimony. Your story of finding salvation through the grace of God by faith in Jesus is a powerful way to naturally draw people into the Gospel.

COMMUNION: CALL ON THE COVENANT-KEEPING GOD

COMMUNION: CALL ON THE COVENANT-KEEPING GOD

One of the things that King David knew intimately well, was that he was in covenant with God, and that his God was a covenant-keeper. We see this in the life of David as early as 1 Samuel 17 when David faced Goliath. He said about Goliath, “Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God?”

In calling his enemy “uncircumcised”, David wasn’t just insulting the Philistine Goliath; he was, in reality, exposing the weakness of his enemy and revealing the secret of his confidence and strength. David was saying, “Goliath will fall because he has no covenant with the Lord Most High, while I am a son of the covenant-keeping God.”

In Bible times two parties or two people would make a covenant with one another by sacrificing an animal and, skipping a lot of gory details about the covenant ceremony involving the sacrificed animal, both parties would be obligated by the covenant to protect and provide for each other. Because of the covenant, all the resources that one party has becomes available and accessible to provide for and protect the other party and his family. The parties are covenanting with one another, “I will provide for you and protect you as my own, because we are in covenant with one another.”

And in the Bible, we often see a more powerful entity make covenant with a lesser entity. And in cases like this, the benefactor or the winner is obvously the lesser party or the weaker entity.

It’s like if Bill Gates were to make a covenant with you. Bill Gates is not just a multi-millionaire, he is a multi-billionaire. Let’s imagine you’re not a multi-billionaire or a multi-millionaire. In fact, you’re nowhere close. But if Bill Gateswere to make a covenant with you, you too would become a multi-billionaire because the covenant allows for you to unreservedly share in his resources.

You and I are in covenant with Someone infinitely greater than Bill Gates!

We are in covenant with the triune God – Father, Son and Holy Spirit. And the sacrifice that ratified and set that covenant in motion was the sacrifice of Jesus Christ at the Cross!

And so I (Ps. Paul) want to encourage you, to take Communion and pray to apply the blood of Jesus over your life, your marriage, your family, and over everything you have authority and ownership of. I encourage you to take Communion everyday this week as we come into the Easter weekend, remind yourself of God’s great covenant promises, and call on your covenant-keeping Father to keep His covenant in your life.

Remember that the application of the blood of Jesus is not some religious or superstitious activity, but it is the act of invoking and standing on and calling forth all the blessings and resources of the New Covenant we have in Christ Jesus.

Also, I highly recommend you join a global online gathering of Christians and Messianic believers on the 7th of April (Tuesday), around Communion and Passover. For more details about this online gathering of tens of thousands, click the button below.

PASSION FOR THE GLORY OF GOD

PASSION FOR THE GLORY OF GOD

In times of crisis and in times of peace, in times of struggle and in times of prosperity, it’s always important for believers to maintain in our hearts and minds an increasing passion for the glory of God.

Below are some Scriptures to meditate on that will help us grow in our passion for God’s glory.

2 Corinthans 4:6, For God, who said, "Light shall shine out of darkness," is the One who has shone in our hearts to give the Light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.

Hebrews 1:3, And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.

John 1:14, And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Isaiah 60:19-21, No longer will you have the sun for light by day, nor for brightness will the moon give you light; but you will have the LORD for an everlasting light, and your God for your glory. Your sun will no longer set, nor will your moon wane; for you will have the LORD for an everlasting light, and the days of your mourning will be over. Then all your people will be righteous; they will possess the land forever, the branch of My planting, the work of My hands, that I may be glorified.

2 Peter 1:17, For when He received honor and glory from God the Father, such an utterance as this was made to Him by the Majestic Glory, "This is My beloved Son with whom I am well-pleased.”

Psalm 108:5, Be exalted, O God, above the heavens, And Your glory above all the earth.

Habakkuk 2:14, For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.

Revelation 21:23, And the city has no need of the sun or of the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God has illumined it, and its lamp is the Lamb.

Hebrews 2:9, But we do see Him who was made for a little while lower than the angels, namely, Jesus, because of the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, so that by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone.

1 Peter 5:10, After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself perfect, confirm, strengthen and establish you.

Nehemiah 9:5, Then the Levites, Jeshua, Kadmiel, Bani, Hashabneiah, Sherebiah, Hodiah, Shebaniah and Pethahiah, said, "Arise, bless the LORD your God forever and ever! O may Your glorious name be blessed And exalted above all blessing and praise!

Habakkuk 3:3, God comes from Teman, and the Holy One from Mount Paran. His splendor covers the heavens, and the earth is full of His praise.

Numbers 14:21, But indeed, as I live, all the earth will be filled with the glory of the LORD.

1 Timothy 6:15-16, He (Jesus) who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone possesses immortality and dwells in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see. To Him be honor and eternal dominion! Amen.

Exodus 33:18-19, Then Moses said, “I pray You, show me Your glory!” And God said, “I Myself will make all My goodness pass before you, and will proclaim the name of the LORD before you; and I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show compassion on whom I will show compassion.”

1 Thessalonians 2:12, So that you would walk in a manner worthy of the God who calls you into His own kingdom and glory.

Acts 7:55, But being full of the Holy Spirit, he gazed intently into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God.

INTRO: PROPHETIC COMMUNITY

INTRO: PROPHETIC COMMUNITY

What does a prophetic community and movement look like?

In Joel 2:28, we are given a prophecy that describes an era when God will pour out his Spirit on all humanity. The primary dynamic or the key sign of the Spirit operating on and through people is prophesy. This is the most important sign of the last days – it is the sign that signals the arrival of and is the ongoing prominent sign of the last days: that a prophetic people will arise because of the Holy Spirit on them.

But what does a prophetic people or community, and movement look like?

To answer that question, let’s define what we mean by “prophetic” or “prophet”.

Robertson in The Christ of the Prophets points out that the beginnings of Israelite prophetism are obscure and something we know nothing of. What we do know is that prophets and the prophetic existed in Israel from as early as Abraham in Genesis 20:6-7, the first occurrence of “prophet” in Scripture.

The obvious connection to the role of prophet in Genesis 20:6-7 was Abraham’s ministry of prayer that healed Abimelech’s household, not to mention the sparing of his and his household’s lives. But perhaps what is easily missed in this “first mention” passage of the prophet is the work of restoration – that the role of the prophetic is to bring restoration; particularly in Abimelech’s case, the restoration of Sarah to Abraham that restored Abraham’s household and that of Abimelech’s.

For this definition of the ultimate role of the prophet or the prophetic, the work of John Sandford has been extremely helpful. In Elijah Among Us, Sandford summarises his vision of the prophets and the prophetic movement in two mandating Scriptures:

Malachi 4:5-6
“Behold, I am going to send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and terrible day of the Lord. He will restore the hearts of the fathers to their children and the hearts of the children to their fathers, so that I will not come and smite the earth with a curse.”

Matthew 17:11
“And He answered and said, ‘Elijah is coming and will restore all things.’”

Sandford asserts that every prophet alive today is called to be an Elijah prophet, that we are to walk in the spirit and power of Elijah, which is the work of restoring all things.

Sandford then quickly points out the need for a prophetic movement in/and community, as the purposes of God for the restoration of “all things” is too great for any one prophet’s vision to encompass. Elijah prophets are not singular individuals, but a company or prophetic community restoring all things and preparing the way for the return of Jesus Christ.

So what does a prophetic community and movement look like? We will look at the characteristics and qualities and functions and assignments of prophetic movements as we continue to examine this massive subject in future articles, but for now we must understand the mandate of such a movement: it is the grand, Kingdom-vision and work of restoration. The prophetic is more than the foretelling of future events and possibilities, although it undoubtedly includes that. Ultimately, prophets and the prophetic is the proclamation and restorational manifestation of the promise of Christ to make all things new (Revelation 21:5). Unless the prophetic pulls in the “new” promised by Christ for the future into the now, bringing restoration, then the prophetic has not fully accomplished its purpose and mandate.

WATCH WHAT YOU SAY!

WATCH WHAT YOU SAY!

Words are more than just sounds that come out of our mouth...

Words are containers that carry success or failure, health or sickness, joy or depression.

Words are, according to Eph. 4:29, containers that carry the power to corrupt, or the power to build up (to edify) and the power to impart grace.

Ephesians 4:29 says, “Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.”

Take stock of your words

Proverbs 18:20 says, “From the fruit of a man’s mouth (i.e. from his words) his stomach is satisfied; he is satisfied by the yield (harvest) of his lips.”

What a powerful truth from a profound proverb – that our words have the power to affect our life-satisfaction, and our “yield” or “harvest”, which represents our effectiveness, our productivity, our fruitfulness.

The reality is that the person most affected by YOUR words is YOU. And if you can’t speak words that build you up, that minister grace to your soul, you’ll never be able to truly speak grace to those around you.

The Issue of Worldview

The Issue of Worldview

A worldview is a set of presuppositions (or assumptions) which we hold (consciously or subconsciously) about the basic makeup of our world. Another way of saying it is that a worldview is your basic belief system of how the world operates; some people are very conscious that they have a worldview, others are not quite aware of the worldview they possess.

Western, Australian culture has a worldview that it structures, and the worldview also helps structures the culture. In general, Western worldview renders our thinking and senses incapable of understanding spiritual realities, including the spirit world of angels, demons, heaven, hell, etc. This is because our worldview trains us to be materialists and rationalists — we default to believing that the only dynamics that influence us are the natural principles of cause-and-effect, and that if we can’t scientifically measure something, it’s unreliable.

This has resulted in many Western Christians not knowing what to do with the spiritual phenomena that we find abundantly scattered across the Bible. Instead of seeing supernatural work as a reality we can engage in, we have limited it to the role of authenticating Scripture — a role that is no longer needed today with the canonization of Scripture.

Of course, we challenge that limited view of the role of miracles, signs and wonders. Our position at MCChurch is that these supernatural works are crucial and vital to the ministry of the church today — that the primary role of spiritual phenomena (especially works of healing, the supernatural gifts of the Holy Spirit, miracles, signs, and wonders as we see in the Gospels and Acts) is not merely Scripture’s authentication, but the invasion of the Kingdom of Heaven on the earth today. These phenomena are signs that the Kingdom has come upon a person or a place, and that the kingdom of Satan is being pushed back and losing ground.

Romans 12:2 encourages us not to conform to this world, but to be transformed by the renewing of the mind. For Christians to be involved in a supernatural that mirrors the works of Jesus and the Early Church in the Bible, the renewing of our minds in the area of our worldview is crucial. Worldview becomes the foundation upon which we exegete or interpret biblical texts; and if our worldview is biased against the supernatural, we suffer a blindspot that causes us to miss much of what God wants to do in and through us.

FASTING IN THE BIBLE

FASTING IN THE BIBLE

This article was originally taken from TheCall.

Almost every major biblical leader fasted at one time or another. They knew the power and importance of this practice. We should follow their example and the example of church leaders throughout history who had a lifestyle of fasting. John Wesley would not ordain anybody who did not fast Wednesdays and Fridays! If we are to see lasting revival we will need to pay the price and deny ourselves, being more hungry for God than for food!

MOSES FASTED
“Moses was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights without eating bread or drinking water.” (Exodus 34:28)

ELIJAH FASTED
“So he got up and ate and drank. Strengthened by that food, he traveled forty days and forty nights until he reached Horeb, the mountain of God.” (1 Kings 19:8)

EZRA FASTED
“Then Ezra withdrew from before the house of God and went to the room of Jehohanan son of Eliashib. While he was there, he ate no food and drank no water, because he continued to mourn over the unfaithfulness of the exiles.” (Ezra 10:6)

DANIEL FASTED
“I ate no choice food; no meat or wine touched my lips; and I used no lotions at all until the three weeks were over.” (Daniel 10:3)

ESTHER & MORDECAI FASTED
”Then Esther sent this reply to Mordecai: ‘Go, gather together all the Jews who are in Susa, and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my attendants will fast as you do. When this is done, I will go to the king, even though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish.’” (Esther 4:15-16)

Fasting is continued in the New Testament.

ANNA FASTED
“And then was a widow until she was eighty-four. She never left the temple but worshiped night and day, fasting and praying.” (Luke 2:37)

CORNELIUS FASTED
“And Cornelius said, ‘Four days ago I was fasting until this hour; and at the ninth hour I prayed in my house, and behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing.’” (Acts 10:30)

EARLY CHURCH LEADERS FASTED
“While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, "Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them." (Acts 13:2)

“Paul and Barnabas appointed elders for them in each church and, with prayer and fasting, committed them to the Lord, in whom they had put their trust.” (Acts 14:23)

PAUL FASTED
“For three days he was blind, and did not eat or drink anything.” (Acts 9:9)

He never forgot the lesson of prayer and fasting and later told the Corinthians, in his second letter, that he had been "in fasting often." (2 Corinthians 11:27 KJV)

MOST IMPORTANTLY, JESUS FASTED
“And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from the Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered.” (Luke 4:1-2 KJV)

Jesus was wise enough to know that without the Father he could do nothing. He sought the Father in prayer and fasting. He waited in the Father's presence until He was endued with power. Let us follow Jesus’ example!

FASTING FACT SHEET

FASTING FACT SHEET

The contents of this article are adapted from Lou Engle’s teachings.

As we prepare for 21-Days of Drawing Near, we must prepare ourselves adequately so that the fast can honour God and fulfill its purpose. Remember that a fast is not designed to be conquered; instead, it’s designed to conquer you. It’s an intentional, relational message that we’re sending to God that we are seeking His face and presence — a reality we desire more than anything else in this world.

Here are some points to help and encourage you.

1. Seek advice and permission before the fast, especially if you decide to do a Complete Fast or an intense Partial or Selective Fast. Seek medical advice before the fast, especially if you have any existing medical concerns or conditions. If you are under 18 years of age, discuss your desire to fast with your parents and get their permission because spiritual covering, submission and unity are important factors when fasting. Remember, fasting is an attitude of the heart!

2. Fast and pray in order to humble yourself and purify your worship. In fasting we are not trying to get something from God and “twist His arm”, but rather seeking to realign our hearts' affections with His. We are subduing the flesh and setting our minds on the Spirit (Gal. 5:16ff). In fasting we can more readily say, "We love you Lord, more than anything in the world." Lust of any kind is perverted worship, but fasting enables us to cleanse the sanctuary of our hearts from every other rival.

3. Don't boast about your fast. Let people know you won't be eating, if you need to (Matthew 6:16-18).

4. Do the fast as a family. Two are better than one! We encourage parents and kids to consider fasting together. Several generations fasting together has a powerful impact (Luke 1:17)

5. Have a clear target for prayer focus. Without a vision (a clear, prophetic prayer goal) the people perish. Make sure you familiarise yourself with our church’s prayer focus during this time. Also, make sure you write down your personal vision for this fast, so you can run with it (Habakkuk 2:2).

6. Commit to a type of fast. You can fast in many different ways. You may want to complete a Daniel fast (Selective Fast), a media fast (Soul-Cleansing Fast), skip a meal or avoid a particular type of food (Partial Fast). Pray and ask God what He will give you faith and endurance for during this fast. He is the author and finisher of your faith and faith is what makes it possible to please Him. These are some of the fasts that you can do:

  • A Daniel fast, with vegetables and water, is good for those carrying a heavy workload (like moms and students). Fasting "meats and sweets" allows you to get protein from other food sources.

  • A fruit or vegetable juice fast allows you to enter into fasting but still gives enough energy to function. Use juice and protein drinks to sustain you, in consideration of your health and metabolism. If you have sugar sensitivities or problems, consult you physician before attempting this fast.

  • A media fast is abstaining from the use of electronic devices (TV, internet, etc) for spiritual purposes. Replacing the time one spends on media devices for prayer and Bible-reading are the benefits of this fast. We highly recommend that you use this type of fast to wisely reintroduce media into your life in healthy ways and doses.

7. Prepare physically. If you are entering into a Complete Fast or an intense Partial/Selective Fast, we recommmend that you start to limit your intake of food to fruit and vegetables about 2-3 days before the fast. Fruit is a natural cleanser and easy to digest. Try to stop drinking coffee before the fast. Drink lots of water to help your body detoxify. Prepare yourself for mental discomforts such as impatience, crankiness and anxiety. Expect physical discomforts. You may experience dizziness, headaches and different kinds of pains. The headaches are not a sign to stop fasting. Your body is working to cleanse itself of impurities.

8. Take time to pray and read the Word. This may seem obvious, but busy-ness and distractions can keep you from devotions and worship. Reading books with testimonies of victories gained through fasting will encourage you. Head over to Koorong or Amazon and find a book that will build you up spiritually.

10. Prepare for opposition. On the day of your fast you can bet donuts will be at the office or in class. Someone will suddenly be inspired to cook your favourite meals. Press through. Many times, you may feel more tension build at home. Satan tempted Jesus on the fast, and we must expect the same. Discouragement may come in like a flood, but recognize the source and take your stand on the victory of Christ.

11. If you fail, don't give in to condemnation. The "to fast or not to fast" dilemma can be a major tool of the enemy. Even though you may fail several times, God always extends grace.

12. Feel free to rest a lot and continue to exercise with supervision.

13. Breakthroughs often come after a fast, not during it. Do not listen to the lie that nothing is happening. Every fast done in faith will be rewarded.

14. Break the fast slowly, over several days with fruit juice or light soups, especially after an intense fast. On a light juice fast or a water fast your digestive system shuts down. This can be dangerous if you eat too much too soon. Break the fast with several days of diluted, non-acidic juice, then regular juice, followed by fruit and vegetables. Consult with your GP to equip yourself.

The Reality of the Enemy

The Reality of the Enemy

Without glorifying demons, we need to understand the nature of the enemy if we are to engage effectively in spiritual warfare. Jesus was not silent about the reality of demons. In fact, whenever He engaged them it was always to forcefully cast them out - He never met a demon He liked and wanted to coexist with! He taught about the nature of demons too, and that teaching can be found here.

In summary, Jesus taught that demons:

  1. Are able to outside or inside humans. Preferably, as the passage implies, demons would rather exist inside humans.

  2. Have unique identities. Jesus’ teaching also seems to imply that demons are tormented beings who find refreshing when inhabiting a person.

  3. Are able to travel.

  4. Have a level of intelligence, as shown in their ability to communicate, make and remember plans, and evaluate and make decisions.

  5. Are able to combine forces with other demons.

  6. Vary in degrees of wickedness, or specialize in areas of wickedness.

So how do we deal with demons?

Firstly, we have to take on Jesus’ attitude towards demons. As already mentioned, Jesus never met a demon He liked. He never made friends with demons or worked out a compromised state of coexistence with them. He hated demons and their work in people’s lives! He wanted to get rid of them and destroy their work, so He would forcefully and violently cast them out of people’s lives.

Secondly, we have to understand that the Cross is spiritual warfare. Not God’s only or final act of spiritual warfare, we have to understand the Crucifixion to be Christ’s greatest and most decisive act of spiritual warfare. From that place of finalized and secured victory, Christ wages war on everything evil and demonic in the power of the Holy Spirit - even today. But the application of the power and victory of the Cross has now been entrusted to us, the Church, which is His body. And to you, the believer, as an ambassador for Jesus Christ.

The Reality of Spiritual Warfare

The Reality of Spiritual Warfare

How much of spiritual warfare affects the Christian, the child of God?

How much influence does Satan or his demons have in our devotion to God? Can we be affected by demonic interference in such a profound way that our faith is led astray, our blessing is robbed from us, our maturity is stunted, and our destiny is aborted?

What does God say in the Bible?

1 Peter 5:8 says, “Be self-controlled and alert. You enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”

Some Christians erroneously think that the devil is like a little pet chihuahua – all bark but no bite. But the verse doesn’t actually say that; in fact, the verse says the exact opposite of that.

Peter was using the imagery of wildlife in 1st Century Palestine, when lions roamed the land. When a coalition of young male lions coming into their prime come to take over a territory that’s controlled by an older team of lions that’s past their prime, these young male lions roar to alert the old lions that their coming to devour them and take over their territory. They’re roaring because they’re picking a fight.

The apostle Peter is, in the above passage, warning us that we are in a fight. We are engaged in very real spiritual warfare and, if we don’t engage, we will be devoured.

2 Corinthians 11:3 says, “But I am afraid that, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds will be led astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ.” The Passion Translation puts it this way, “But now I’m afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent’s clever lies, your thoughts may be corrupted and you may lose your single-hearted devotion and pure love for Christ.”

What’s at stake in spiritual warfare? Apparently, a lot! If we don’t engage in spiritual warfare and allow ourselves to be deceived by Satan, we can be so corrupted that we lose our single-hearted devotion and pure love for Christ. That would be a terrible condition for a believer to be in.

But here’s the GOOD NEWS:

Jesus, the Lion of the Tribe of Judah - the Lion of lions! - has arrived at the scene of spiritual warfare and He has come to violently and forcefully attack, overpower, and overcome every demonic personality and stronghold. He has come to strip the enemy of his defenses and his weapons, and He has come to divide the spoils! (Read Luke 11:20-22)

In the words of 1 John 3:8, “The reason (the PURPOSE, the MAIN OBJECTIVE) the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work.” In Acts 10:38, Jesus is described as being full of the Holy Spirit and power, going around “doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with Him.” A holistic and biblical approach to our personal transformation and sanctification must include the Kingdom-dynamic of receiving God’s blessing in all areas of life, including the destroying of the works of Satan and his forces.

REVIVAL IS RE-BIBLE

REVIVAL IS RE-BIBLE

A great revival preacher named Charles Finney said that Revival is “nothing more or less than a new beginning of obedience to the Word of God.” Revival is not airy-fairy or by chance. It is not mystical or magical. Revival is a heartfelt return to love and faith in the living and written Word of God – the Bible. And that's why here at MCChurch, we say, "Revival is Re-Bible."

There’s an epidemic spreading among believers today: Christians who profess to be followers of Christ no longer read the Bible today. Or we might read the Bible occasionally, but we don’t read the Word of God every day. But, in an atmosphere of Revival, Christians read and feed on God’s Word every day.

The common excuse, of course, is, “I’m too busy.” And that might be true, but that’s just an excuse. Because these same people have time to watch TV and Netflix, or binge on social media. The other excuse is slightly more alarming. There’s a trend of thought and attitude among Christians today that the Bible is not sophisticated enough to deal with the issues of contemporary society; so Christians would rather equip themselves with the language of POP PSYCHOLOGY, rather than SCRIPTURAL THEOLOGY. Put differently, Christians would rather draw wisdom from talk shows and TED talks and magazines, rather than from the simplicity of reading the Word of God and reliance on the Holy Spirit.

I want to encourage us today: Let’s feed on the Word of God every day; let’s get into the Word of God every day. Read the Bible daily and let God’s Word nourish your mind and emotions. After all, Jesus said, "People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes out of the mouth of God" (Matthew 4:4).
